Use the Black Metal Pickaxe for the route that needs it
- Step 1: Open the Forge and search for Black Metal Pickaxe; if it is locked, read the missing requirement shown there before collecting more black metal.
- Step 2: Process the black-metal stock through the blast-furnace route, carry the material to the Forge, and craft the pickaxe only after the repair and transport path is ready.
- Step 3: Keep a lower-tier pickaxe in the chest, test the new tool on its intended node, and reserve it for the route that justifies its material cost.
The Black Metal Pickaxe is crafted at a level 2 Black Forge from 20 Black Metal and 5 Yggdrasil Wood. It is a late-game mining tool for the Plains and later routes; it does not replace the Antler, Bronze, or Iron pickaxe for earlier ore gates. Discover both materials first, repair the tool at the Black Forge, and carry it to the route that justifies its cost.
The value of a Black Metal Pickaxe is logistical as well as mechanical. A finished tool stranded at the wrong base or used on routine nodes does not solve the late-game route that paid for it.
Before crafting, place the Forge near the route or prepare a return portal and a chest for the finished tool. Smelt and transport only the amount needed for one craft, repair the pickaxe immediately, and mine one target node. If the durability or travel time does not solve the bottleneck, keep the stockpile for the next metal gate.
